Well, you made me look!! ;-) I have too much in my head/heart today, so can't figure out how to write it all down, so can't write a blog, either. Sometimes, that is how it goes....
IT's a bout a 25 year old French man (the age the author had when he wrote it) who concluded that being intelligent is a handicap nowadays and that intelligent people are unhappy not being able to find their "place under the sun". He has delightful weird friends to whom he comunicates his intentions after having unsuccessfully tried to become an alcoholic and after having discharged suicide as a possibility to his problem. I'm halfway reading it and I'm soooo busy and tired that in the evening I only want my brain washed by watching some TV....but I'm planning on finishing it this week. Hopefully.
I strongly recomment this book, it's SO French, if you're familiar with modern French movies that is.
I find the concept of the story fascinating. And I agree to some aspects, if you continually think about life and analyze everything, most of all your own thoughts and ideas it is making unhappy indeed.. well, I always wreck my brain and get nowhere :)
Apparently Antoine, the main character, has a way above average IQ and a lot of time for private research and...thinking. Maybe reflecting on our own existence has something to do with the too much time on our hands. Hardly, I would say...He's also very curious and meticulous in everything that he does so somehow I don't believe his little experiment is going to succeed...I'll let you know...:)
